At Kerkering Barberio, we know how important and helpful hands-on experience is when entering the public accounting industry, and our internship positions can provide just that, plus more. You will jump right in and be exposed to different tasks and industries, with no two days being alike.
We do not require prior public accounting or specialized industry experience; however, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or a Junior/Senior level student working toward a degree in accounting or other business related field is preferred. We offer internships within our tax and audit departments throughout the year, generally in the winter and summer, and most are for a period of two – four months. We understand that working and going to school can get hectic, so we work with your schedule and provide flexible hours. Our goal is to provide you with a truly rewarding experience.
As a Tax Intern, you will gain experience preparing individual, S-Corporation, Partnership, and other tax returns, in addition to recording transactions in ledgers, preparing trial balances and simple financial statements using software programs, reconciling accounts to control accounts, and much more. As an Audit Intern, you will obtain exposure to audit engagements offered by the Firm and become familiar with audit software, Firm standards for work paper preparation, and pronouncements of the FASB and AICPA. Via software programs, you will gain experience importing trial balances and preparing financial statements, executing designed audit tests, and much more.
With our paid internship positions, you will not only be provided with an excellent opportunity for professional growth and development, but you will also gain real-world experience, become a part of a team, and have fun! Check out the pictures under Firm Culture to see for yourself!

I started my internship with Kerkering Barberio at the beginning of the 2015 tax season, while finishing school at USF Sarasota-Manatee. This was my first experience in the accounting field, but with the help of my amazing team and other KB family, I hit the ground running and haven’t looked back. I initially started with basic personal tax returns and before I knew it I was completing business returns, setting up new clients, and completing new projects daily. When tax season ended, I was hired as a full time staff accountant. Internships are an essential part of your education and are essential in learning your craft. As with any field, the best training is hands on, in a real world environment. The accounting knowledge you gain while interning at KB cannot be taught at school and it was an integral part of my learning experience. – Michael Aemisegger, Staff Accountant
